ENCARTACIONES
Encartaciones is a vast area originally made up of 10 municipalities which constitute the transition zone between Biscay and Cantabria. It is, therefore, a land of cultural diversity, patent in its architectural heritage, traditions and customs. According to the popular belief, this area was a place where the fugitives use to hide from the justice.
Nowadays, it is the most unknown area of Biscay, the Bilbao´s Far West.

MUSEUM OF ENCARTACIONES
It is the most emblematic building of Encartaciones. Originally, it was born as a Meeting House, which became the political centre of the local government for centuries. Nowadays, it has become a museum and a cultural reference of Enkarterri. It is a meeting point for enjoyment and knowledge of the present and past life of Enkarterri. It provides a historical, political and ethnographic view of the region and its inhabitants.
LA ENCARTADA BERETS
Established in 1892 and closed in 1992, La Encartada Berets is a hundred-year-old factory dedicated to the production of woollens. The visit to the old workshop supposes a sentimental walk through the lifestyle of four generations of residents of Balmaseda, the town where the workshop is located. It is an amazing and interesting opportunity to know about the textile production in those years.
LOIZAGA TOWER
Surrounded by nature, the medieval tower of Loizaga houses the largest collection of Rolls-Royces in Europe, including all the models manufactured between 1910 and 1998.
Apart from that, the visitor will be able to enjoy another collection of selected classics cars, as well as sports cars..
KOBENKOBA
It is the first interpretation centre of prehistoric cave paintings of Europe. In fact, it was built in the most appropriate place: a cave where our antecessors expressed their first curiosities.
The centre is located in the cave of Los Judíos and it is made up by three rooms where we will have the opportunity to travel across time and learn about the life of the European Homo Sapiens.
VALLE DE VILLAVERDE´S ETHNOGRAPIC CENTER
The Valle de Villaverde´s ancient schools are nowadays the ethnographic center of this village.
Here you have the chance to take a trip in time, the opportunity to learn how our grandparents lived.
EL POBAL FOUNDRY
This foundry is the only one in Biscay which recreates the atmosphere of the old iron and steel workshops where iron was transformed to make tools.
Having this one still operating is, therefore, a privilege, as all the old foundries of Biscay have disappeared.
This is the last remaining which, in addition, allows visitors to see the iron manufacturing and forming processes.
MUSEUM OF THE BASQUE MINING INDUSTRY
It is a non-profit entity founded by former miners and workers of the steel industry. Now, due to the impact of the financial crisis, we can witness the disappearance of what years ago constituted the essence of Biscay.
This museum is a center dedicated to the study and knowledge of the culture and history of the Basque mining industry..
